Sterling Silver
Sterling silver is an alloy of 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper. Since pure silver is a very soft metal, the addition of a small amount of copper alloy gives the metal enough hardness to retain its shape over years of wear.
Gold-Fill
Gold-fill consists of a thin layer of real gold (identified by its karat and colour) mechanically bonded to a brass core. To be sold as gold-fill, the weight of the gold must be a minimum of 1/20 (5%) the total weight of the metal. Gold-fill is a permanent application of gold that will never need refinishing if properly cared for.
What makes gold-fill different than gold-plate? Gold-plating involves a much smaller amount of gold (usually a layer less than 0.5 microns) being electroplated to a base metal. Gold-plating is not a permanent treatment—it can wear off over time, and a well-worn gold-plated piece will usually need to be re-plated during its lifetime.
With the rising prices of precious metals, gold-fill is a wonderful way to incorporate gold into your jewellery collection at a more affordable price, while being higher quality, longer lasting, and more gold content than gold-plated items.
Gemstones
The metaphysical properties of gemstones provided are for information and entertainment only! In my work with gemstones, I believe that they can be powerful personal symbols, but ultimately the impact on your life or emotions comes from your own heart and mind. Our brains’ ability to use symbolism, intention, and ritual to create changes in our lives is not to be underestimated, and humans have always used physical symbols and tokens to support this practice. I recommend finding a gemstone that resonates with you, and using it as a physical reminder to embody that energy.
